How to use Netvanta with Router

Jump to solution

I have a client who uses Verizon as a T1 provider. they recently switched out the T1 hardware with a new Netvanta 3448., This client uses a SonicWall VPN router. Verizon has not been able to work with them to configure the  Adtran 3448 to work with the Sonic Wall or any other (Dlink/Linksys) type of router. (they tried 2 other routers) What settings need to be changed on the Adtran so it will work with the SonicWall?  Verizon has been no helpoat all, saying they should use the Adtran Router functionality. They want/need the VPN functionality of the SonicWall and are happy with it.

I assume that "They" above is Verizon, correct?

If Verizon owns and maintains the 3448 and doesn't allow customer access to it, they should have given the customer four pieces of information:

LAN subnet

LAN subnet mask

Default gateway

DNS servers

The Sonicwall should be configured to use one of the unused addresses within the LAN subnet.

Its subnet mask should be configured to match that given by Verizon.

Its default gateway or default route should match that provided by Verizon

It should be set to use the DNS servers provided by Verizon.

These settings should be the same as on the old T1 hardware, unless Verizon had a good reason to change them.

If Verizon is unable to give you the four items above, or if they've configured the 3448 for NAT or DHCP, insist politely but firmly that they not do those things and provide the information needed for you to connect your equipment.  This is T1 service and not residential DSL. Verizon should not be playing those tricks.

If the customer owns and has access to the 3448, post its configuration here.
