NetVanta 1531P/Netvanta 3120 Configuration documentation

Jump to solution

Hi,

I am looking for basic Netvanta 3120 and Netvanta 1531P configuration documentation.

What I am trying to do is to build a small business network with no more than few PCs and extra devices. Now I got configured the Netvanta 3120 using a static IP address (ISP supplied) but I am unable to get the Netvanta 1531P fully configured (no internet traffic).

Looked all over (I think) and only found the Quick Start Guide and Installation Guide for both of these products. The documents do not provide in depth configuration.

Does anybody know if the documentation I am looking for even exist?

Thank you,

Mario

Hi vmaxdayg05,

Thanks for your response.

Problem was that the switch did not have the gateway configured pointing to the 3120. Also (rookie mistake) both units came with same default IP address (10.10.10.1). Once I changed the switch IP and placed the default gateway all was good. By the way I am only running a flat network.

Thank you,

Mario

I'm not sure it the documentation exists yet specifically for the 1531P, but getting it up and running as a switch on your network with the 3120 should be no problem.  I just put my first 1531P in yesterday at a customer site.  Are you running a flat network or do you have multiple VLANs?  Out of the box, you should be able to link the 1531P to your 3120 on any of the 3120 switch ports and be functional.  I noticed that the 1531P ships from the factory with IP routing enabled.  So if you want the switch to have access to the internet for SNTP, etc., then you need to add a static route 0.0.0.0 /0 using the LAN address of the 3120 as the next hop.  This is different than issuing the default-gateway statement which is ignored if IP routing is enabled on the switch.

Are you getting internet when using just the 3120?

Haven't messed with the 1531 yet--hopefully soon!  Awesome price.

It's nice.  Hopefully not too many bugs.  My only complaint is that it shares the same 19" rack mount brackets as the 1534/1544.  The brackets are sold separately on the 1531, where they are included in the 1534/1544.  We're talking about $2.00 worth of metal.  They are sold separately.  They'll cost you an extra $20-$30 depending on what kind of pricing you can get.  I'm sure they did that to keep the cost as low as possible on the unit to be competitive, but I think they should have raised the cost $10 on the unit and included them.  No I have to train my reps to treat the 1531 differently than the rest of the 1500 series switches.
