deleting voicemails

Jump to solution

I would like to delete a users voicemail off the server without deleting the user. Where does a users voicemail reside on the server and can they be deleted from the server without using a telephone?

Fuller,

If the user is using local message store then the voicemail is in the user folder

If 64 bit OS go to this path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ADTRAN\NetVanta UC Server\Data\Users\

If 32 then:

C:\Program Files\ADTRAN\NetVanta UC Server\Data\Users

Then open the index.txt and locate the user with local message store. then close file and open the folder with the number associated to that user. Then go to the "Mailbox" folder, then "Inbox" folder. Delete all the files in there to remove all voicemail for that user. Same for "DeltedItems" if you like and "SentItems" folder.

Let me know if you have any questions or if the user is using Exchange Message Store or another type of message store other than Local Message Store.

I have the same issue and I tried the above fix but it did not resolve the issue.  We are setup to email the voicemails to the users, so the user does not have to check the voicemails on his phone.  When he does check it says he has over 900 voicemails.  I went in and deleted most of the voicemails from the server and when he checked the next day it still says he has 900 voicemails.  Is there something I need to do to force it to sync with the phone and is there a way to set it so that it deletes the voicemail when it emails it.

Thanks

Sorry Matt replied to the wrong person.

So have we verified that this user is indeed using Local Message Store?

If so when you go to the Mailbox > Inbox folder, how many files do you see in there? For every voicemail there is a .DAT and .ATT file

I would also delete all the files in the "DeletedItems" and "SentItems" mailbox.

Then have user test again.

ANother thing is to go to the Recycle Bin on the Server and Empty it. Just to make sure they are gone.

Ok,

I found the fix, after you delete all the voicemails, open up the UC Client application and with the Admin tab selected, go to Tools > and then select "Resynchronize All Message Waiting Lights." that will fix the problem from the user still hearing that he has 900 messages.

I tested it here and that fixed it.

Sorry for the delay I had to wait to get an update from the end user.  I checked and there are .Att and .Dat files for the voicemails.  I have deleted the files and the user said that when he checks from his phone is still says over 900 vm.

Did you do this after you deleted the files:  After you delete all the voicemails, open up the UC Client application and with the Admin tab selected, go to Tools > and then select "Resynchronize All Message Waiting Lights."

You have to do that before the user checks their voicemail.

That fixed the problem.

Thanks

Now is there a way to set the server to do that automatically after they are emailed.

Re: deleting voicemails

Glad that fixed the problem. There is no way of doing that with local message store. They will need to be deleted manually either by the user from his phone. That can only be done when doing Unified Messaging (UM) using exchange or IBM domino as your external message store. By using UM the messages are deleted by email or from the phone, they are synchronized.

Another option is to do Local message store with Integrated messaging. That way the Voicemails can be seen from within the users UC Client application and can be easily deleted from there and it also deletes them from the phone.

Hope that helps.
