    Cannot Ping Default Gateway

    keystroke13 New Member

I have a perplexing issue were I cannot ping our internet service providers default gateway ip address behind a NetVanta 1335 PoE, AOS version 18.03.01.00 Enhanced. After numerous configuration changes and factory defaults I discovered connectivity issues when changes were made through SSH. I can ping the static, primary and secondary DNS ip addresses. Just not the default gateway ip address. In a final attempt to fix this issue I factory defaulted the router and then made all changes through the GUI interface. Connectivity is maintained. I can ping the static, default gateway, and primary and second DNS ip addresses without issue.

To establish a baseline I have a very basic configuration that contains two VLAN's and a route of last resort to the ISP's default gateway. My laptop is connected via interface switchport 0/10 which is trunked to VLAN 1 and 10. On my laptop the windows firewall is disabled configured with, IP: 10.20.0.200/16, GW:10.20.0.1, DNS1: 69.49.xxx.xxx, DNS2: 72.55.xxx.xxx.

      Am I missing something?

@keystroke13 - Based on the configuration you provided, the only thing you appear to be missing is a source NAT rule for your LAN interface (VLAN 1). Without this NAT, you will be unable to ping or connect to the internet. The simplest way to set this up is by going through the Firewall wizard in the web GUI. Also, the guide below provides an example of how to set this up using the CLI:

          Configuring the Firewall (IPv4) AOS

You will want to reference Example #1 which starts on page 26 of the firewall guide.
