Dial extension local to switch without contacting Feature Server.

Jump to solution

I apologize if this comes out as a simplistic or, for lack of a better word, stupid question. I'm fairly new to the IP Telephony game and I have been asked to make the below scenario a reality. I'd like to be pointed in the right direction with some documentation if possible.

Scenario:

Two polycom devices are connected to the same NetVanta switch, in this case a 6355, and register to a Broadworks feature server upstream. Is it possible to have caller 1 extension dial caller 2 without ever contacting the Broadworks system?

Reason:

Conserve as much bandwidth as possible by making all communication stay within the LAN.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Scott,

Thanks for posting!  For the scenario you describe, SIP traffic will always need to be sent to Broadworks system.  However, since most traffic for a phone call is the RTP rather than the SIP, you can greatly reduce the bandwidth used by enabling "direct media" on the Broadsoft.   Feel free to respond to this post with any questions you may have.

Thanks!

David

I moved this post to the area as it applies to the NetVanta 6355.

Thanks,
