DTMF on TA900 ??

Jump to solution

We are having a customer issue sending DTMF from an Auto Attendant press-off on a PBX (option 2) to an outside (cloud) IVR. We have tried changing the ISDN Trunk Account from Inband to Out-of-band as well as modify our Metaswitch Media Gateway profile, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions here on what we can change? Here is our set-up:

SIP network (SBC & Metaswitch) --> Adtran TA900 eth 0/1 --> Adtran TA900 dsx1 --> customer PBX --> PBX auto-attendant --> PBX call forwarding --> cloud IVR

We are supposed to be able to call into line: xxx-xxx-5545 and hear PBX auto attendant and press option 2 which sends us via call forward on PBX to cloud IVR auto attendant in which we can send DTMF from several other SIP endpoints all the way through when the Adtran and SIP endpoints are all Inband (i.e. Aastra SIP phone, analog line, OFF-NET cell phone, etc).

However, the issue is a caller with a SIP trunk using Out-of-band DTMF calls to our Adtran with a media gateway profile that is sending and relaying DTMF in SIP info to an ISDN Trunk account on the Adtran that is set to Inband, fails to get through the PBX auto-attendant. DTMF gets lost in the path...

Under the PRI setting for VoIP settings, choose NTE value 101.

On the Meta, choose RFC2833 out-of-band, not SIP Info.

How is the PBX connected to the cloud IVR?  Does this go back out the same PRI through the TA900 and Meta?

Does the PBX respond to DTMF from the caller but the cloud IVR fail, or is the PBX non-responsive as well to the outside call?

If you call in to the PBX and answer with a phone behind the PBX, then send DTMF, are the tones heard through the handset?

If NTE 101 and RFC2833 doesn't fix it, force the codec to G.711 and choose inband on both the Meta and the TA900.

Which firmware are you running on the Adtran?

Try R10.9.2 .

I’m running that with a mix of inband and RFC2833 with no problems.

We tried setting the ISDN Trunk to NTE 101 (Out-of-band) and this broke a direct trunk access out to the cloud IVR (i.e. no DTMF passes). We will try modifying our Media Gateway model in the Meta with the Out-of-band suggestions next and test.

The PBX is connected to the cloud IVR via a call forwarding option on the PBX to a toll free number going out a different PRI connected via TA900 and same Meta.

The PBX is failing to respond to DTMF from an Out-of-band caller, but we have this same customer set-up in our lab trying to duplicate the issue and I can run the command: debug voice dsp voip 0/1 channel verbose rfc2833 and see the lab test Out-of-band Adtran pass DTMF to the PBX and can press off on the lab PBX IVR and go out just fine. Is this the right debug to run? Is there a different debug to run to capture any Inband DTMF on the receiving or sending Adtran?

TA908#debug voice dsp voip 0/1 channel verbose rfc2833

We have not tried to answer with a phone behind the PBX then send DTMF to cloud. We will test this also today. Thanks for your suggestions!

Thanks for the assistance Jay! Setting the RMGM in the Meta to RFC2833 only and the Adtran trunks to NTE101 fixed the issue!
