what is the PC Config process in the show cpu output?

    rkhanso New Member

There are a few posts in the forum with people asking about the PC Config process/task in the sh proc cpu output, but no one has ever answered what that process is.

I've seen it jump up to 90% for short periods of time.

Would someone explain what this PC Config process/task is?

      Thanks.

          Roger,

The PCconfig thread contains quite a few tasks. Below I've pasted a list of some of the tasks that run in that thread.

          Command line interface

          Autolink

          DNS

          Http Client

          Webserver

          SNMP

Maintenence events for various interfaces (Ethernet, ADSL, SHDSL, DDS, etc.)

          Fan Control

          EFM (Ethernet in first mile)

          NQM Network Quality Monitor

          TopTalkers

          OAM

          Ping

          Traceroute

          DHCP

          PPPoE

          LLDP

          Port Auth.

          Bridging (Aging cache)

          Clustering

          GVRP

          IGMP

          VoIP Name Service

          VQM (Voice Quality Monitoring)

Maintenence event for layer 2 (encap) protocols (PPP, FR, ATM)

Were you viewing the CPU in the web interface? Sometimes the web interface has a tendency to make the CPU spike for a short period.

Let us know if you have any questions..

          Thanks,
